Burn after reading

Your mom told you: it is bad, bad, bad to pry into people's lives or peer over your neighbor's shoulders to try and read his SMS. The thing his, you may learn things you are not supposed to know, dangerous, confidential information that could have disastrous consequences for you and your family or your friends...

It seems that some of the characters of this comedy did not listen to their mom or they listened but dismissed the warning putting personal interest above common sense - I mean, having a tuck can be blinding and lead you to turn your back on family advice. Beware as this is the basic recipe to becoming a blackmailer on the cynical geopolitical arena! And this is how John Doe finds himself involved in secret service plots and risks his routine laden life. The movie is dark and efficient as it will make you laugh at the unlaughable and will show you how anyone with no brains can get into trouble or can get others into trouble for the wrong reasons. If we stretch it a bit, you could argue that only too often wrong reasons are the motives for large-scale political decisions...or wars - do you get the drift? The thought makes my laugh vanish all of a sudden...

Are we sure this is a comedy?

One thing leaves no doubt: this is a Coen brother movie (hint, hint) and the actors and dialogues are phenomenal. Brad Pitt - not my Hollywood cup of tea - shows that he IS good, also as a comic actor and despite a somewhat minor (and short lived) role.

Now, stop trying to read your neighbor's mail...you may regret it.
